Memphis ranks 2nd in TN for highest average fuel pump price, AAA reports
Target Tabloid – The average price of gas per gallon in Memphis is the second-most expensive price across Tennessee, while the Volunteer State has the 14th cheapest cost in the U.S.
That’s the latest weekly assessment compiled by The Auto Club Group-AAA.
Last week, the price jumped eight cents, on average, to the current tally of $2.79 per gallon.
In the Bluff City, the average cost stands at $2.85 per gallon, behind Johnson City’s $2.89.
Knoxville claims the least expensive price at $2.75 per gallon, followed by Chattanooga and Morristown.
“Gas prices moved higher across the state last week, likely thanks to steady increases in crude oil pricing,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA. “Pump prices are facing additional upward pressure thanks to heightened geopolitical tensions and the lingering impacts of the extremely cold temperatures on refinery production. If crude oil prices remain high it’s likely that drivers can expect pump prices to fluctuate higher again this week.”
The national average cost for gas bumped up by three cents since the prior week to $3.10, AAA reports: the figure is 40 cents less than one year ago.
